I would play 4 5 1 make us hard to beat we got to play as a team instead of pass the ball to jack an wait to see what he does! I predict a 3.1 win.

Agree0 Disagree0

Walkies, keeping possession of the ball would make us harder to beat mate.
We have ended up playing 4-5-1 at times anyway, I think the way our squad is set up, we are a bit restricted as far as formations are concerned.
I think we should avoid pretty patterns from now on, and concentrate on the very basics of the game, keep it simple and safe.

If they are tight, we open it up, and if they are open, we play through them.
If that does not work, we should go over the top, for that reason I think 4-4-2 is a must.

I agree Dave one up top doesn’t work we don’t have the players for it either in the wide positions or the defensive midfielder to protect the back four, . We need to play Jack in a central role and most importantly we must stop trying to play at the back like Barcelona there are times when the ball needs to be launched into row Z and on those occasions it needs to go there. Paul McGrath wasn’t afraid to do that when required and as we all know he was the most cultured defender we have ever had down at B6.

John, I have to say mate, I am glad there are a few of us who see this game for what it really is.

Dave.
Dont come on very often as its the same stuff all the time.
One thing that has not changed for us is the need for, you guessed it, an arse kicker.
Clatter and clear.
The basic instruction for all defenders
Far too often we fart about because the midfield are not looking for the ball, they are waiting for it.
Not moving to a better position just waiting for the bus to come past
10 games to get things right or .!

Will Deano be with us next season?
My thoughts, No.
So who will be the next victim of the poison chalice?
Pochetino springs to mind. Available and good. Cost a lot but needs must. The owners have the funds and the desire to give us what we want.
Top 6?

Old Villan I am definitely with you on the need for an arse kicker I am just about old enough to remember Trevor Hockey never the most cultured but he epitomised they shall not pass mentality having said that probably a Steve McMahon would be a better option but unfortunately not to many of these types around nowadays.

With regards to Deano I hope whatever happens he remains but I think you are probably right and if we are relegated he will be gone. If he does go whilst I would love Pochetino I don’t think he would touch us with a 10 foot pole it takes years to build a reputation and 5 minutes to destroy it and we are definitely a poison chalice which means we are less likely to get an established name at present. Personally ( and I am sure what I am about to say won’t be popular) I would go for Slaven Bilic a ex international manager premiership and championship experience and someone who as a player knew Not only how to defend but how to organise a back four and someone who will encourage youth he would do for me.

Good points John, and Oldvillan,

Poison Chalice: Definition.
If you refer to a job or an opportunity as a poisoned chalice, you mean that it seems to be very attractive but you believe it will lead to failure.
I think the reason our club is classified as a poison chalice, is largely down to us, our supporters are so fickle and impatient it must be very unsettling as a Villa Manager.

Take your point Dave and in fairness we have to give our owners a chance my poison chalice comment is based on what we have seen from our recent owners and a reluctance to stick with managers through bad times as well as the good, hence why my preference is to stick with Deano if you change managers as often as your socks you are never going to achieve anything.

I know john, I think we are singing from the same sheet mate.
Like you, I have been on Deano`s side from day one, I only wish he would change things around a bit, anyway John, I hope the break has given him time to assess and rethink his strategies.
