Do we make anything in this country? I have just been looking at face masks, it amazes me, that in times like these you can`t get a mask made in the UK.
Its madness, we must reduce global infrastructure dependency,
improve local provision, this will improve our internal means of producing essentials, ie Drugs, Medical supplies etc etc, in turn it will help us in any future crisis.
Depending on others will always cause problems, needless to say, we all know why.
{Ed001's Note - there is a large number of face masks (and other ppe) made in the UK, but they have to be sold abroad as the Govt buys from Turkey for the NHS instead!}

I think you know what I mean Ed, with all due respect mate, that has and always will have implications.
We need as a country to supply and satisfy our own needs first, before we balance the books mate.
You can get UK products but it is far from easy, read the reports and reviews Ed, I am not on my own on this.
Like I say, and it goes without saying.

Hi Dave, I don't post very often but do read some of the posts that come from others.
In answer to your initial question, the answer is "NO".
we are a service division for the rest of the world.
I remember the time when if it was made in England it was perfect. Birmingham was the centre of production . If you wanted anything you got it in Birmingham.
Sadly the '70s changed everything
Further to your question ask what qualifications are required to be a procurer/ buyer for the NHS?
A reason for some shortage has alledgedly been that gloves were ordered in boxes of 100 and it is being said that it was thought that 100 meant pairs when in fact it was single gloves. this said only half the quantity needed arrived!
Dont know if this is 100% but who knows.
