Dave I am ok mate however we have had some illness in the family so time has been taken up with that I am afraid. I have dipped in and out but not had much to contribute sorry chaps hopefully that will change in the coming weeks.

Hi Dave unfortunately we lost our cousin to covid-19 he did have underlying health issues also so been busy trying to organise his funeral other than that we all fine cheers mate I trust and hope all is well in your household? It's great to see Mark and Moose keeping everyone's peckers up with their wit and humour great additions to this forum. Also I see the let's say the fickle bunch have been posting their usual rubbish. Just a quick question for you all. Who is everyone's favourite footballer and why? Mine is Zidane because of his technical ability and by god he could turn anyone on a six pence .

Sorry for your loss Daz and hope you and your family are coping during these difficult times. As for favourite players I'd say Gerrard and Roy Keane would be up there but my absolute favourite would be Stuart Pearce loved his attitude and passion especially after he bounced back from his penalty miss plus his love for punk music and playing the sex pistols in the dressing room before games. Legend 😁.

{Ed001's Note - who was guilty of racially abusing opponents.}

29 Apr 2020 11:09:35
Edoo1 I didn't realise that about him scrub him from my list then. Unacceptable.

{Ed001's Note - he admitted it mate, so it defo happened. Should never have been employed by England due to it imo.}

29 Apr 2020 11:18:40
Its definitely tainted my opinion of him Ed probably why i'm not really keen on hero worship, you always end up getting let down was basing my opinion on footballing ability alone.

{Ed001's Note - very much so mate.}

29 Apr 2020 11:29:25
Appreciate your input Ed keep up the good work 👍.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome mate.}

Sorry to hear about the loss in your family Daz.
Favourite player ever is difficult, there are so many, but I would have to say Johan Cruyff, as in my younger days, he was the one I idolized and wanted to be whenever I played. I just remember him as being brilliant at everything, and just didn’t seem to have any weaknesses in his game. Zidane is a great shout though, indeed there have been many great French players such as Cantona, Platinii, Henry and more recently Mbappe.
Keep your pecker up mate, 👍.

29 Apr 2020 12:27:20
Sorry John, best wishes to you and your family as well mate, hope the problems in your family aren’t serious and looking forward to you becoming a regular poster on the forum again mate, 👍.

29 Apr 2020 14:10:38
Dear all thanks for the good wishes things have been difficult but nowhere near as bad as Daz it just goes to show there is always someone worse off than yourself (Sorry for your loss Daz) Hope everything is good with everyone and your families. In terms of my favourite footballer I am with Dave it has to be George Best and bearing in mind I dislike Man Utd with a passion that’s saying something. As Dave says the way he stayed on his feet was remarkable given the state of the pitches and the tackles defenders could get away with back then I remember one particular challenge from Chopper Harris which was The nearest thing to GBH I have seen on a football pitch 😂.

29 Apr 2020 14:49:46
Hope everything is ok now John with you and your family. Regarding George Best great story I heard was he'd just ordered champagne room service in a hotel after winning at football, had a big win in the casino and their he was in his room had a miss world lying on a pile of cash on the bed champagne on ice and the waiter asked " where did it all go wrong George? "

29 Apr 2020 15:21:56
I remember that challenge as well John, I am pretty sure it was from behind, and Harris got away with it as well.

29 Apr 2020 16:10:44
Imagine if a referee from this era like Martin Atkinson, for instance, went back in time to referee a game in the 1970’s. I could imagine for some games there would of hardly been a player left on the pitch come full time.
Players got away with murder, and not just defenders, Bremner and Souness spring to mind, good players but they both had a really nasty streak in them.

29 Apr 2020 16:30:35
Thank you all and John hope all goes well mate.

29 Apr 2020 17:09:28
Spot on there Mark, it was a different ball game then mate, pun not intended.
I have to say, there was far more intent in those days, I mean to press.
Players rarely passed back, and there were far more individuals who had real talent, and played the game as it was meant to be played.

29 Apr 2020 17:43:46
Dave us old uns maybe starting to sound like the Fast Shows Ron Manager " small boys in the park, jumpers for goalposts, 3 and in, oh Timmy's taken his ball time for tea, fish fingers, marvellous "😂😂.

29 Apr 2020 18:17:36
Brings back happy memories Moose, and Dave football was more fun in those days wasn’t it?
Yes, there were the hard men but that was all part of it, and there were far more characters in the game who played along with the crowd. For instance I’ll never forget a game at the Villa when the Holte end were chanting to Stanley Bowles, asking him where his wife had gone. I remember him turning round to the Holte shrugging his shoulders, the crowd loved that.

29 Apr 2020 19:28:11
Think most of our players have been shrugging their shoulders all season in the immortal words of Shaggy "it wasn't me " no more questions m'lud the defense rests or in our case goes missing 😂😂😂.

29 Apr 2020 19:46:44
Goes missing Moose? Did a defense exist in the first place? I wasn’t aware of one 😂😂😂.

29 Apr 2020 21:08:04
Neither were opposition strikers 😁.

29 Apr 2020 23:38:30
I pop in occasionally to see if anything is going on but with all the furloughs I'm up to my eyeballs with work so trying to relax as much as possible whenever I do have 5 minutes.
Not great but thankful I'm not having to deal with health related problems as some unfortunate people here who I hope get good news soon.
