Lets get Sunday out of the way then get back to 4,4,2 for the rest of the season. Get tight and learn to defend again. Three at the back worked till we got sussed out. For Sunday I'd go Nyland, Gilbert, Mings, Engells (He owes us one) Targett - Grealish, Elmo, Hurrahane, Luiz -
Samatta, Davies
Subs
Reina
Lansbury
McGinn (He could do 20 Mins)
Nakamba
Baston
Hause
Konsa
Trez.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry SV, I think we need more changes than you have in that side.
In my opinion that side would give us nothing more than we have been getting.
I am sticking with what I believe, and that is the introduction of half a dozen youngsters, 4 in the side and 2 on the bench.
We have nothing to lose, we keep doing the same things and it is not working.
Balls that`s what we need, win or lose, "TRY SOMETHING ELSE"

26 Feb 2020 15:52:01
Is Davis still injured Dave?

26 Feb 2020 15:59:11
I think so mate, but he is close to coming back I think.

26 Feb 2020 16:01:53
4eva, Just found out he has been training for a couple of days, so he could be on the bench?

26 Feb 2020 16:22:40
I would like to see Dean Smith try this but I will be absolutely amazed if he does.

26 Feb 2020 16:29:45
Sorry Mark its my age mate, "try what"?

26 Feb 2020 16:44:39
Love the idea Dave, but I don’t think he will even have any of the youngsters on the bench.
If he sticks with the usual players though and we get hammered or worse still pick up more injuries as well, then I think the 💩 will hit the fan.

26 Feb 2020 16:46:47
Sorry Dave, I thought you would know I was referring to your idea of trying the youngsters mate.

26 Feb 2020 17:06:38
We can speculate all we like, this is still classed as a major tournament, no manager/ coach in the right mind is going to be anywhere near some of the daft selections from posts I have read. Southern Villa is probably as far as Deano will go, even his choice may be a selection to far. So those of us who are going should just enjoy the day out get behind the team and hope that we put up a good account of ourselves.

26 Feb 2020 17:17:35
That`s ok Mark, no apologies needed mate.
I agree with you, I don`t think much will change either.
If that is the case, yep the "merde" will hit the fan.
Deano said changes will be made, is he a man of his word, we will see.

26 Feb 2020 17:30:21
How old were Beckham, Scholes, Butt, Giggs, the Nevilles, when Sir Alex introduced them to the 1st team.
A bold move at the time but Fergie as you like to say Dave
“ Grew a pair “ and yes well the rest is history.

26 Feb 2020 17:48:44
Difference is mate they were world class players who showed that, probs showed it on the training ground aswell unlike the useless money grabbers we have.

26 Feb 2020 18:00:58
Tom, they weren’t world class players when they came onto the scene. They were given the opportunity and they eventually became world class players. I seem to remember they had their ups and downs in the early days
but Fergie stuck with them. We give our youngsters a 10 minute cameo at best, and never see them again.

26 Feb 2020 18:42:41
Well said Mark, end of the nose come to mind mate.

26 Feb 2020 18:44:58
I think we were the first team to beat that united team, and someone said you can't win anything with kids.
How wrong were they.

26 Feb 2020 19:12:39
The way I see it Dave, the only way I see this club moving forward isn’t just a case of having a great Academy and producing promising youngsters. It’s having somebody in charge that gives them a chance to establish themselves.
I don’t know if Dean Smith is that person but the signs so far are that he isn’t.
To be successful we simply have to start becoming self-sufficient, buying other team’s players all the time is simply unsustainable. We are on the limits of staying within ffp
regulations as it is. As we know, there are those who maintain that we’ve already surpassed those limits but if we have or we haven’t, carry on as we are and it’s only a matter of time.

26 Feb 2020 20:07:56
Mark and Dave accept your intentions are well meant, are you both really expecting a team in both a cup final and a relegation fight going to experiment with unproven players, this is an absolutely futile debate. A manager fighting for his position is not going to committ football suicide, I accept you know that. So Sunday Deano will put out, in his opinion the strongest possible 11. If or when we change the manager nothing will change with the exception of the odd young talent getting time on the bench. Pep has gone on record as saying Phil Foden is the best young player he as ever seen, how often does he start, virtually never and that is inl a team that could carry two passengers, so guys in football you never win anything kids, a well known cliche that in nearly every walk of football holds firm.

26 Feb 2020 20:37:35
I am not expecting Deano to do anything near what I have suggested.
It is what I would like to see, what I would do, and what I would like Deano to do.
Can`t you see that Scotty, what I am saying is never going to fall on pricked ears is it.
I would like it to happen.

26 Feb 2020 20:43:54
He has categorised Foden Scotty, he has said best young player he has ever seen.
He has not said he is the best player I have got, apart from that Man city have very good players all over the pitch.
He does not need to use him yet.

26 Feb 2020 20:55:44
Scotty, firstly I sincerely hope that the virtually predictable team that is selected for the final doesn’t disappoint and lifts the trophy against all the odds. You guys deserve nothing less than that.
You say that a team like Man City can afford to carry one or 2 passengers. Haven’t Villa being doing that all this season anyway?
So what I am saying is this, do you think that a few of our better youngsters would have done any worse than, without naming names, our own passengers ?

27 Feb 2020 11:23:57
If it's a 4-4-2 attacking formation atleast, then this is the team I'd choose: Reina, Elmohamady, Mings (captain), Konsa, Targett, Trézéguet, Hourihane, Luiz, Grealish, Bastón, Samatta.

My prediction is that Villa will tie with Manchester City at full time (1-1). And unfortunately, Villa will probably lose at extra time or penalties.
I highly doubt that Smith will use my formation. He will probably use the same formation as last time. If so, then Villa will surely lose.

27 Feb 2020 13:31:49
Villadave, I would love to see him pick vassilev, Barry, etc etc but it ain't going to happen. So with the players he will go with I just think we need to go back to a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3. At the start of the season at least we weren't getting spanked week in week out and played off the park. The defense is only weak at the moment because its being exposed too easily by the wing backs and forward running mid fielders leaving gaping holes in between. Go solid and boring for the next few games to get first a cup then some points to stay up. Staying with the current system will only see no cup and relegation. See you all on Sunday UTV.

27 Feb 2020 17:51:08
I understand SV, I know it ain't going to happen mate.
Its just what I would like to see happen, and yes I am all for 4-4-2.
So agree totally.
