Hey Fellas, just a bit of fun.
Can you name any teams you played for in your younger days, during your claim too fame.
Also what leagues did you play in?

Hi Dave, you will never of heard of them but anyway, I played central defence for Shipston Excelsior and we played in the Stratford Alliance, 1st division, I might add.
Going back to your favourite player discussion, I’m surprised neither Gordon Cowan’s or Brian Little didn’t get a mention who in my opinion, for what it’s worth, were both outstanding Villa players.

Good shout on the players Mark, there have been so many, we forget.
I was Attacking Mid, played for Cromwell youth, Inter Volante, and Joseph Lucas fc.
Leagues were: Festival, Coronation, Birmingham works.
They were great days.

You ready for all these Dave? Glebe pub Coronation league1,Coach and horses Coronation Alliance, Brookmeadow Coronation alliance, all on Sundays. Saturdays Jaguar in Birmingham works league and Kings Heath Utd in Midland Combination for 1 season till they folded got paid £10 a game for them. Also had the pleasure of playing at Villa park for a charity match scoring a penalty against Spinks sending him the wrong way What Bayern Munich couldn't achieve I did that's my claim to fame hehe. Also played at St Andrew's and the old Baseball ground Derby.

I don’t know about you guys, but for me, they were by far and away the best days of my life. That and of course seeing Villa win the league and European Cup.

08 Feb 2020 20:43:36
Good selection there Daz, and you were a useful player I would think.
Sounds like you had a lot of transfers haha.
The Birmingham works was a tough league in the late 60s early 70s.
I never mentioned money but had a run out for Paget Rangers, but nothing came of that, I think they were in the Mid Combination.
They were half decent.

Daz, I used to live up the road from the Glebe Pub, Used to live on the Meadway by the Mackadown Pub.
Its gone now, Lidl I think, small world mate.

08 Feb 2020 20:53:28
Yeah, have to agree with that Mark, real great days and clubbing at night.
I have to mention getting married also, and our Son and Daughter.

I played in a couple of Redditch United youth teams but the biggest claim to fame was running the line for a Redditch U21 Vs a World Select Under 17/ 18 (Forget exactly as got dragged out of school for it) .
Only piece of silverware I got in the game 😂.

08 Feb 2020 22:42:39
You got some metal rk, takes big round things to do that.
Running the line, too much abuse for me.
Sounds like you playing days were short mate.

08 Feb 2020 23:32:09
I used to play for Lincoln United in uni bond prem used to get 30/ 40 quid a game bck 98/ 2000,wouldn't change that for anything haha.

08 Feb 2020 23:34:56

I played in goal for teams with 10 wannabe strikers, most of which would miss if the goal surrounded the pitch.
Needless to say I got fed up of trying to deal with 2/ 3 on one situations. Used to have weekly sessions with the Walsall goalkeeping coach at the time.
Officiating the 10s-14s is worse mate, parents thinking their kids are the next Messi but turning them into Cattermoles. Actually found the few adult games I did extremely pleasant in comparison.

09 Feb 2020 12:01:51
Sum adults go to far mate, I've seen parents swear on sidelines and everything.

09 Feb 2020 13:49:02
Know what you mean rk, my son in law manages a local team down here, they are under 12s, he has the same problems, shocking really.

09 Feb 2020 13:51:44
That`s really weird Daz, we left in October 1994.

09 Feb 2020 15:29:00
Yeah 4eva, I even sent a couple of parents back to their cars until the match was over for taking it too far.
Luckily even as a 16 year old I felt there'd be enough support around should anything kick off but still had times where I collected my fee and got on my bike out of there before anything could happen. Goes with the territory when you have to overrule overly eager parents with the flag though.
The majority of the time even the managers giving the most abuse would shake your hand and say you did a good job so I'll never regret the experience.
