McGinn scoring record for Scotland before Steve clarke took over wasn't good. Clarke has pushed him further forward and bingo 5 goals in 7 games. So Deano you know you have a great player in John McGinn, take a leaf out of Clarke's book and play to his strengths, don't keep giving him more defensive responsibility than attacking. Of course he will need to defend at times that's obvious, however let's see him scoring goals by pushing him further forward, it has worked for a poor Scotland side so it will work for us if you have any sense.

He scored 3 of those against San Marino, and for his first 2 games in charge Steve Clarke was slated for playing McGinn just in front of the back four - just adding some context.

I totally agree scotty, and that has been mentioned on here before which I did agree with back then.
Again it was slated and laughed at.
Players can be converted and used to better effect in a different role, again I pick out Gareth Bale as a prime example.
Problem is if Deano had done that and it did not work he would get hammered.

Clarke obviously listened after the first 2 games, perhaps Deano should do the same.

Mcginn plays as a number 8 which means he is expected to get forward and do a job at the top end of the pitch. Deano has also said he wants him running in behind like he did against Spurs so telling our manager to start doing exactly what he has been doing all season just proves you're complaining without paying any attention.
Mcginn is defending because the team is defending. If you think he should stay up the pitch and not do his job then why complain about El Ghazi doing the same thing and not tracking all the way back?
