Just a thought, has a man on the back post stopped being used.
The reason I ask is because Liverpool`s second goal would probably not have been scored if there was somebody on that back post.
Ed, your thoughts on this would be welcome mate.

{Ed001's Note - putting men on the posts seems to have gone totally out of fashion mate. I don't understand why. Leaving players up field has also gone these days, another thing I don't understand. If you leave one man up it forces your opponent to leave a couple back, giving your defenders more space. Putting men on the posts would stop a large percentage of the goals that are conceded. I don't get why both aren't still used.}

Yeah, totally agree Ed, long gone are the days of the Bill Shanklys, the Brian Cloughs and Jock Steins, who said football is a simple game.

{Ed001's Note - it is bizarre but defending seems to be a lost art. Players can very rarely read the game well and instead it is all about being quick enough to make up for the errors in positioning they make.

One thing I don't understand is how managers do not see that crowding the box with bodies gives an advantage to the attacking team. Leave a couple forward, force the opponents to leave more back and then your defenders can have the space to attack the ball.}

That`s a great point and makes good sense, and yet all or most teams do it.
A point I would like to make is I watched 4 games yesterday from different leagues.
Vitesse, and Jong Ajax from the Dutch league, Silkborg from Danish league and Setubal from Portugal.
All of those teams play the same way, and that applies to most sides all over the world, out from the back, sideways, backwards.
The point being, back in the day Leeds played different to Chelsea, Liverpool played different to Derby and so on.
Far better to watch in my opinion Ed.

{Ed001's Note - I am 100% with you. Football is losing its way and becoming boring and predictable.}
