I'm glad we got the win but struggled against 10 men again.
Major points for me:
1. Officials shocking again. Too many decisions to discuss.
2. Shooting boots were left at home, should not need that many chances.
3. Although he snatched the winning goal, nobody can defend that overall performance from Targett. We could have controlled that game so much better had he not constantly given it to a Brighton player. I hope it's a one off.
4. Mings needs to sort his head out. Bad mistake against Norwich and although he handled himself well against Bulgaria, today was a bad day for him. If he's injured he needs to be willing to make way as we have enough quality in that position.
5. Jack was immense and certainly would have shut up a few people. Had there been better quality and movement around him we'd have had another Norwich result imo.

Mings and engles were both poor today
As was targett before being my hero.
Jack was mom he was brilliant.
But we need to get our defence sorted out for next 2 games that's a gimme.
El-ghazi had one of his off days again.
Trezeguet is a better option mainly because of his work rate getting back.

I can defend Targetts performance and I will, that was his second game for us, which should in itself explain the below par performance the bloke needs some time in the side, he is better than Taylor that`s for sure, and last week he was very good.
As for Mings he is what he is, cavalier young and enthusiastic, therefore prone to the odd mistake like every human being.
Agree about Jack, starting to look more like an attacking midfielder.
Performances like his last two should be the norm for a player with his talent.

A Targett at 50% is far better than a 100% Taylor, Taylor had never scored a goal which isn't surprising, so give the Guy a chance.

Shouldn't have expected any different really. Had Brighton been out of sight in that first half like they could have been it would 90% have been Targett giving it away cheaply. He got away with one massively today but you'll happily give him excuses after slating someone who didn't put a foot wrong prior to Arsenal just because they didn't play like a striker.
I want all the players to do well but any objective viewer would consider that the worst 45 minutes any Villa player has had this season. I'll still stick with him for games we should attack in but defensively he worries me and I'd avoid playing him against City otherwise I see us conceding 6 or 7.

Targett wasn’t the best to be honest, before they went down to 10 he was brilliant but after the sending off he got caught too high up often and miss judged a few balls, then he went and grabbed a 94 minute winner so who cares haha.

Perfect time for “average jack” to show what he can do with Southgate at the game, only worrying thing is every we did came through him, every player looked for him when they had the ball, and when he’s not right there they don’t know what to do, players need to take responsibility and look within for inspiration.

Officials were awful, never ever a free kick for their goal and never a foul on the keeper for connors goal. Absolutely abysmal yet again.

A few players had off games, McGinn looks leggy second half and el ghazi didn’t put the best performance in second half.

With all that said sometimes you have to grind out results and today we did just that, another day Connors goal counts, he puts away the other brilliant chance he had and we win comfortable. Onto the next one!

Rk Taylor doesn't play like a footballer let alone a striker.

rknewell please tel me what was wrong with target he set up a great chance for Connor who should have scored? He then goes onto get the winning goal taylor would never have got a goal neither would he have made chances? So please don’t slate him when we have watched taylor for so long! Heaton was fantastic! Captain jack was fantastic! Tyrone wasn’t with it today but wasn’t many that was! Nevertheless fantastic result UTV.

Chris I also think that jack wants everything to go through him? He was fantastic and it’s about time? He reminds me of the spoilt kid on the playground where everyone has to pass to him!

Tom, a defenders main job is (and it'll come as a big shock to you) to defend. He didn't really stop anything in the way of attacks and sloppiness resulted in us having 35% possession at home prior to the red card.
I'm glad he came up trumps at the end but Brighton could have easily been out of sight before then. A more clinical team would thump us losing the ball in those areas.
I've already said before that he should be the preferred option in games against the bottom half teams but it's no use creating 2 chances against the likes of City if you're going to give away 6.

Targett definitely struggled defensively second half, players have bad games tho and he scored the winner so we move on.

Rk I saw him defend a few crosses really well actually and did a lot that Taylor wouldn’t do! I think in today’s game his main job is to get forward and put those damaging crosses in, he does that really really well give the bloke a break he’s young and will improve.
