So this might be rather controversial.

I genuinely like Wesley as a player, he's growing more into the premier league but I feel as if the pressure put on him by being our top signing and sole striker has dampened his impact. He has had games where he has been barely noticeable, I can concede that but he been putting a good shift in on and off the ball.

We need him scoring though, because as much as I like him without goals a striker is nothing. I do think we need another striker to compete with him, as much as I like Davis I don't yet see Premier League quality and should have gone out on loan.
I think with Targett in the team, Wesley will get goals, I just think he needs time that we don't have, and bringing in another striker to push him would be great.

Let's hope we get rid of Kodjia and bring in another striker, who doesn't ostracise Wesley; the last thing we want is him to feel like we gave him half a season and gave up. I trust in Smith in what he saw, and that he will get the best out of him

Hi alex, where ya bin mate, hope all is well.
I have been posting about Wesley, the problem I have with him is that he does not seem to like the physicality of the prem, and spends too much time complaining, he either sticks his chest out and confronts the player, or starts waving his arms about as a display to the ref.
He missed a sitter on Monday, and because he did not score he stood there raising his arms again as some sort of protest, the fact is the ball was still in play, he should of been aware of that.
He needs to man up a bit, and show his team mates that he is the target man we are craving.
Having said all that, he is used to playing with someone up front with him.
I have no doubts a striker is our main priority come January.

2.) 27 Nov 2019 17:26:56
I think he desperately needs a striker coach, someone who can try and give him them natural strikers instincts. We’ve seen it turn poor strikers into decent ones in the past.

Chris, Dion always seems to be at the club, when not on Homes under the hammer . He could give him a few tips, or see if Heskey is interested .

Not bad shouts mate, Beattie turned Adams into a brilliant striker last season.

5.) 29 Nov 2019 12:21:21
And what a waste of money he turned out to be at Southampton.

Jean-Kévin Augustin is one Suso allegedly likes the look of. Notably absent from the Leipzig game and having fallen behind Werner, it is understood by Sky and insiders that the pacey striker may want to move on. Not a prolific striker, scoring only 6 last term from 25 appearances, however was mostly used as a substitute behind Werner. 18mil price tag.

We really need a natural goal scorer but for one that fits the profile age wise, it’s going to take 35m minimum.

Andrea Belotti has been linked; can't understand why. To my knowledge he has a fairly substantial release clause, is captain of his team. Buying him would mean doubling (at least) our transfer record for Mings, and I can't see anything coming from it.
Would mean offloading Davis (on loan) to Huddersfield (rumour) .
Can't see owners sanctioning such a purchase this year.

Smith eyeing 4 more signings, and 3 departures. 1 GK, 2 MID, 1 Striker.
Departures suggested are Green (loan), Lansbury and Kalinic.

1.) 25 Jul 2019 13:02:29
Sky Sports News saying we've agreed a deal for Nakamba from Brugge. Can't see Lansbury going myself, Smith really rates him. May be wrong though. My thoughts on departures would be Green on loan, Thor, Hogan, Bree and maybe Kodjia. Worryingly, we aren't getting linked with strikers though.

2.) 25 Jul 2019 13:05:00
What about Tshbola, Hogan, Bree - they need to go as well.

Villa have no intention of spending the £40 million necessary for Rafael Leao, as it would also need to outbid other teams on wages. Whilst it would be a great transfer, a friend who knows a friend said it's not likely.

Watching the Liverpool match right now. Kodjia has to go. At the 30 minute mark, he was tackled fairly in the box, and whilst we still had the ball he just lay there in the box and barely made an effort. Lad has got to go.

By the looks of it McGinn has been carrying an injury which could explain the poor performances. Why we would play him by giving him painkillers is beyond me, it's still a mental thing if you know you're injured. Poor decision by the staff here, rest him up let him recover, rather than play half a man as it's looked like over the last two weeks

Mcginn strikes me as a player who'll try and play to help the team no matter what, and like you say Alex, bearing in mind we can't afford him out with a serious injury, it beggars belief why dean would let him play, or does that betray dean's faith in HIS SQUAD-makes you wonder doesn't it!

We lost, but I think it was deserved. The issue we have is that we don't have enough support for Wesley, we are pretty much functioning as a having 1 winger, 1 striker and Jack playing a left attacking midfielder. We can keep blaming Wesley all we want, but he isn't getting the service he needs. Smith constantly says we "are a passing team" but some games I see little evidence of that. We do have the quality to pass the pall, Douglas Luiz when he came on proved that; but when our striker is isolated so much of the match I can't see why people complain.

He can't be expected to shoot when he doesn't get the ball, let alone score. He needs support up top.
I'd much rather we play Nakamba and Luiz as CDM, grealish and Mcginn at LAM and RAM respectively and then Wesley and El Ghazi (or whoever we buy) up top.
We know Jota isn't a winger so why not use a 4-2-2-2.

I feel as if all the blame on Wesley neglects the fact that most of his touches last night came 20 yards away from the penalty box because he's being asked to hold the ball. I don't think i remember 1 decent cross to him, or a ball to his feet near the box.

Engels needs to come back in, his height has been missed given that we've conceded a couple from set pieces and crosses.

A couple of very good and valid points alex.

We were toothless at best. Defensively very good for the most part.
Grealish struggling quite a bit, I want the lad to do well but Mount and Maddison are twice the player he is right now.
I can foresee money being spent on creative players in January, especially if you consider that 2/ 3 of the players we brought on when pushing against 10 men, were defensively minded.
Wesley was good at times but I feel as if he needs someone to play off him.

So, Jota made me eat my words from last week. I didn't rate him and am still sceltical but maybe, just as Wes has, he's growing into the league.
My thoughts:
Guilbert has to be playing every week, guy is immense at both ends of the pitch and will get overlooked but is great.
Mings and Engels are a great pair, look solid other than a few worrying moments.
Taylor is still keeping the shirt, however Targett needs to push him.
Douglas had and uneventful game but did his duties well for the most part, lacks the yard of pace he is desperate for.
Mcginn was great, we expect nothing less.
Grealish went missing at points in the game, glided across the pitch well. Is a player that needs a confident team to play well, not ready for England though.
Trez, great tenacity however wasn't as threatening against two very good full backs.
Jota, played very well, some great touches and moments
Wes, excellent the entire game, movement was terrific and hold up play was as good as Benteke was at his peak.
El Ghazi, stole a goal but sprinted a long was so deserved
Elmo, brought on to sure up the back, uneventful

I want us to be able to hold the ball better, and be more dangerous however this should come with confidence and time.
I do think we need to bring in another striker and winger as Wes looked tired towards the end, and having an injection of pace in the last 10 minutes through el ghazi was great.
Good match, incredible atmosphere as usual. Just hope this allows us to grow as a team and compete with big teams like Everton and have more than 35% possession. We have good ball players, just hold the ball and not chase for 3/ 4 of a match
Should be noted, Iwobi, Kean looked dangerous.

Sure RHLT I guess you could argue has he proven himself to be able to recruit talent that we need right now. However I trust in our owners.

Personally I feel disappointed by this news. We currently have one unproven striker, one who has never been proven in the PL and another who isn't ready to start in the championship. As well as this, we now only have 3 wingers, all 3 of which could get injured and be left with no substitute to replace the remaining 2. As much as I respect the vision of the club; to not sign another winger after letting Green go out on loan is baffling to me.

Along with Bjarnason, this has been a bloody good transfer window, however there are quite a few more cars at bodymoor than usual so maybe some more?

eh rumours are rumours, and in all fairness we've all heard the rumours that bacuna can beat a man 1on1; better to be able to laugh at a rumour than be unaware of it imo

I remember garde saying that he was going to put his own stamp on the team and would be backed in January, so now it's February, Lerner and the board screw over the fans and the manager time after time. This is group of people who brought in Mcleish after all.

My expectations are for us to finish 12-15th with a cup run. We need to beat teams like Bournemouth, that’s about it.

We've played pretty much a back 5 in the past two games and have consequently leaked 7 goals. Can't say I have two much faith in him. Yes he hasn't been supported by the board but even after the lescott debacle he played him and to me that shows a blatant disregard for what's happening at villa park. How on earth does he think we can survive if we are playing defensively.

Sherwood kept us up and at times we were entertaining, actually appeared to give a crap. Garde is a robot.
