So I read marsielle are willing to pay 17mil for Amavi. I'd take the money. Amavi is a descent young player but I would bite their hand off for 17mil.

VillaSA

{Ed002's Note - Marseille made an offer for Jordan Amavi last week and that as presented to Aston Villa in writing. Ignore the amount as that is incorrect.}

1.) 04 Jan 2017 07:14:00
I wouldn't sell him. He's one of the best left backs around at the moment. Also plays like he wants to do his best for villa.

2.) 04 Jan 2017 04:18:46
what is the amount ed. ?

{Ed002's Note - Of no relevance.}

3.) 04 Jan 2017 04:19:48
I herd they offerd 8 million which was laughed off and have now come back with 15 million.

{Ed002's Note - You need to forget everything regarding the finances.}

4.) 04 Jan 2017 11:37:51
Why Ed?

{Ed002's Note - Because the transfer fee is only ever part of the costs of a transfer and invariably the figures bounced around by the press and fans are a long way from being correct. Marseille are after a number of players this window and have made a formal offer for Amavi - but the amount provided in that offer last week does not reflect the final cost that Marseille would need to pay CHris.

It might be an apt time to explain again about the cost of transfers (excluding wages). What is paid by the buying club would typically include:

(a) Transfer fee - the big number.
(b) Any levy applied by the local FA – 5% for the EPL.
(c) Tax due on the transfer fee – typically this will be VAT (at varying rates across Europe) some or all of which should be reclaimable.
(d) Agent fees – this may be to one or more agents (as an example, Liverpool have spent £40M plus VAT on agent fees over the past three years leading to this window).
(e) Tax due on the agent fees – typically this is VAT at the local rate where the agent bills from – it is not reclaimable.
(f) Intermediary fees – this may be to one or more sponging leeches (what do you mean you have a super agent?) .
(g) Tax due on the Intermediary fees – typically this is VAT at the local rate where the Intermediary bills from – it is not reclaimable.
(h) Signing on fee to the player (possibly including non-reclaimable VAT if the player is VAT registered).
(i) Legal fees.
(j) VAT on legal fees which is reclaimable.
(k) Moving/relocation costs for the player.
(l) VAT on moving/relocation costs which is reclaimable.
(m) Paying up insurance costs to the selling club (sometimes waived).

What is paid by the selling club would typically include:
(a) If the player is under 24 and moving between different football associations, a Solidarity contribution paid to his previous clubs responsible for his training - this is 5% of the transfer fee received (apportioned 5% of the contribution for each year from the season of his 12th birthday to the season of his 15th birthday and 10% of the contribution for each season from his 16th to 23rd birthdays).

(b) If the player moves to a higher category club (all clubs being categorised 1 to 4) then Training Compensation is due for the period of age 12 to 21. Compensation is due to all clubs when the player turns from amateur to professional and thereafter only when he moves from his final training club to another club. The initial training compensation is levied at the training costs associated with Category 4 clubs. The subsequent figure is agreed between the sides or tribuneral if necessary.

(c) Any monies owed to the player if he did not request a transfer – again this is 5% of the transfer fee received.

(d) Any monies owed to the player in terms of his contract (typically outstanding owed wages (not future wages) and bonuses).

(e) Any money contractually due to a previous club as the result of a sell-on clause.

5.) 04 Jan 2017 13:33:49
Cheers Ed, so if say they've bid 15mil, they'll infact have to pay more than that figure and we'll end up paying a small amount to various places?

{Ed002's Note - It is clear as I have explained Chris - and this is why I would rather not discuss finances with the football fans.}

6.) 04 Jan 2017 15:18:27
Ed, great post. and explains a lot from behind the cloak and dagger crap!

Must be said, one of the longest and hardest posts I've ever seen! Now need an asprin!

I think this is one of the only platforms where not only do people moan about the state of affairs at AV, but people actually moan about other people moaning. Let's get some positivity going on here.

My personal opinion is we have the right manager, some money to do business, an owner who communicates, some good backroom staff, I also believe we have a descent squad that wasn't used properly last season.

I don't echo the sentiment that just because we had a horrid season last year that all these players are muck and we should get rid of all of them, there are still descent players that can get us promoted if the team is set up properly.

Our youth are coming through and have the added benefit of starting in the championship and not the PL.

3 or 4 more descent signings, strikers and attacking MF, and we have a team that can definitely push for promotion if they gel, the core is there guys, you need to change your outlook.

Spot on 👍🏻

UTV.

2.) 25 Jul 2016 12:22:30
I agree I feel positive about this season.

3.) 25 Jul 2016 13:28:10
A lot of lads on here are just wanting signings, signings and signings. Which I don't fully disagree with but if we break it down logically these are the positives.
1. Amavi back from injury is like a new signing.
2. We have signed a great captain.
3. A very talented young GK.
4. Tshibolo is a young talented power house which RDM will get the most out of
5. Loaning out Gil was a good move. He is talented yes, but he doesn't fit into our style and it can be tempting for a manager to tinker with the whole team to make him work.
6.Gardner has had a good year back from injury and will definitely help us this year.
7. Traore is a cracking player if he stays fit.
8. Ayew has plenty goals in him I reckon after having a full season of experience in the PL
9. I believe RDM will get the most outility of Grealish.
10. Gestede will score goals in the championship if we can deliver right. Which I believe Grealish and Traore will do.

4.) 25 Jul 2016 22:58:17
Agree with you on many points there
VillaSA, however we do need strikers in a hurry because let's remember they need time to gel, and understand the system. I
Think Traore and Grealish will terrorise. the Championship but think about how awesome Villa could be with two powerful strikers! that's why people are getting upset and sound negative. By the way Gestede isn't our Superman, if he scores more than 12 i will run naked through Birmingham! Not good enough at all.

5.) 26 Jul 2016 10:50:42
Yes Devlins, I am with you 100%, I would love one more top quality striker to play along with Ayew and keep Gestede as a squad player if we ever need to adjust to a long ball approach within a game.

11 May 2016 22:10:24
I've just seen now that there is a new Geneva based consortuim named 'IM 1872' that have been named as one of the potential take over parties and that is why Di Matteo is now the front running managerial candidate being their preferred manager. They also own Hertha Berlin, who have made some what of a resurgence in the Bundesliga since being bought over by them.

These reporters irritate me. Reporting headlines that Aston Villa is in for a turbulent season based on Sherwoods remark 'If we get through the season unscathed'. He was talking about injuries. BS reporting drives me mad.

I'm estatic about Gestede close to signing, he was my second choice behind Austin. Think he is only getting better. This transfer window is really looking good

I had such a crazy dream last night, I dreamt we beat Bristol 5-0 and even Hogan scored.

VillaSA

1.) 02 Jan 2018 08:33:04
Well never saw that result coming!
Everybody played well and we had more pace in build up play,
Special praise for elfick who I thought was finished at villa but has been brilliant last 2 games,
Would be a injustice now if Terry just took his place,
Grealish was the grealish of old under Sherwood,
Some of his ball control was fantastic,
Hogan looked a different player when he scored
So all in all a great performance and that is now the benchmark for rest of season
Don't forget after the Norwich game we fans thought the same that we turned the corner and was not to be,
Just enjoy now till the Forrest game.

2.) 02 Jan 2018 10:43:26
Disappointed Mainbob, you didn’t even mention your son getting a run out.

3.) 02 Jan 2018 13:00:16
Chris

I did say everybody played Well!
That's means what it says,
He will start on Saturday I have no doubt.
Green and Terry could start as well
Go on my son!

When Bruce starts saying he wants to build a system around Grealish again, it scares the stuffing out of me. Grealish is a good player. But what if he gets injured.

That's exactly what he said pre-season, Grealish got injured and it took us a while to get going because he had no plan B.

The system has to be built around the strengths of the team as a whole.

VillaSA

05 Dec 2017 18:16:12
I think Bruce has had a decent season thus far, but I would like to see him rotating the team a bit better.

About 5 or 6 games into the season he really got the structure and balance right. If you have the balance right and a number of 'like for like' players. I really think you can rotate more.

For example Mourinio plays the same tean week in and week out just like Bruce. He ends up with a lot of injuries, and his players are buggered at the end of the season.

Furguson was the master of rotation, and it is different to tinkering. Rotation, you are keeping your spine, and what works, and roatating 1 or 2 players that are like for like every week.

These players can be rotated.

Grealish for Onamah
Hourihane for Lansbury
Taylor for Hutton
O'hare for Snodgrass
Jed for Samba for Terry
Lyden for Whelan

And a few more i'm sure.

Just 1 or 2 changes a week. You can keep players fresh, increase competition, develop youth and keep squad players happy. whilst keeping the spine and stucture and increase performance.

He has to rotate his squad based on injuries and it ends up being retroactive.

Thats what makes sense to me anyway.

VillaSA

1.) 05 Dec 2017 19:25:43
I agree in principle, and on paper, and on places like this it makes sense, but you need the right sort of player, and the right quality with to replace.

Ferguson did this, you are right, and his squad players became legends, look at the little Norwegian! But his whole squad oozed quality, and world beaters, ours doesn’t, and in my opinion is fragile, I feel with this team, momentum is everything, not just with the results, but with the formation, and who’s in the team.
For me, we have a starting 11, that is a mid table prem side, we then have 11 more players trying to break in, that are a bottom 3 prem side.
If we mix them, the lesser players ‘could’ raise their games, but the opposite could also happen. And we can’t risk this.

We have to have a side that only the best play in, so if you make the team, you know you are there because you are the best on the day. We can’t have average players thinking they are playing because somebody else is resting. They know they won’t play the next week, so could be distracted, and cost us.

For me rotation works only with the very best.

Injuries happen through three things,

1) accident, bad tackle, trip etc
2) poor philosophy, warming up and down poorly, food and life style
3) poor mentality, anger, frustration etc

These guys are elite, two three matches a week, (180-270 minutes! ) will not kill them.

Pmsl at comparing Brucie with Ferguson and the chosen one!

2.) 05 Dec 2017 19:47:44
Last line sounds condescending, wasn’t meant like that at all, so I apologise! Just made me laugh that he mentionyin the same breath, I’m one of Brucies biggest allies on here, and I have to admit he is fit to lace their boots!

Sorry VillaSA wasn’t meant to patronise. Just a different opinion.

3.) 05 Dec 2017 20:06:31
Alright let's retract compare and say rather a facet of a broader strategy that I am comparing to greater managers that everyone can identify with.

Yes I do agree with your reasons for injury, however muscle fatigue can hit a player at anytime regardless how fit and elite they are, that's when long term injuries happen.

In terms of our starting team, I think its the most cohesion we have had in years. a lot of our fringe youth haven't been able to develop in our previous teams as our team and tactics changed like the weather.

Our team is pretty stable. I really think how can it be disastorous. Eg swap Whelan for Lyden one week and keep the core team. He can only improve in that enviroment.

4.) 05 Dec 2017 20:08:34
No stress Flackie, never took it that way.

5.) 05 Dec 2017 21:19:30
Thanks mate. glad you took it as it was meant!

6.) 05 Dec 2017 21:57:46
Lyden can’t replace anyone, he’s just had a serious operation yesterday.

7.) 05 Dec 2017 22:25:42
Well isn't that great news.

8.) 06 Dec 2017 12:50:55
Great thread and replies. I tend to agree with Flacks on this one momentum is the key I can't remember the last time we had a decent and stable side although VILLASA I can see where your coming from but it's all about getting out of this horrid league it's easier said than done so for me keep the same 11 each week until injuries or suspensions dictate what happens but great posts fellas.

19 Dec 2016 14:31:14
So I would like to add my input for our January transfer window.

I would bring in Brady, to give us some attacking strength through the middle.

Forestieri attacking down the left and linking up with Amavi.

Vincent Enyeama or Schwarzer in goal.

Enyeama/ Schwarzer
Hutton Chester Baker Amavi
Brady Grealish Jedinak
Adomah Kodjia Foresterei

Outs;
Ayew
Gabby
Kozak
Gestede.

VillaSA

1.) 19 Dec 2016 15:08:43
what formations that mate? because i don't think wed get far with brady and grealish playing as centre mids. I do like the team tho, swap grealish for a centre mid like Will Hughes or Lansbury and play a 442 with
adomah lansbury jedinak brady
Kodja foresterei
because also I'm pretty sure forestieri is a striker.

2.) 19 Dec 2016 17:05:48
Forestieri is actually an attacking left mid or winger. Wednesday play him as striker. It would be a 4-5-1 essentially, Grealish at no 10, Jedinak playing more defensive and Brady linking up play as a box to box midfielder. We then can attack down both flanks and through the middle. I still have a lot of faith in Grealish if he gets more time and space.

SB likes to play more compact. But unfortunately he has to play players out of position to play a more attacking formation due to the unbalanced team he has inherited.

Maybe my theory is outlandish but by buying only 3 players it strengthens where we are weak and balances the team in my opinion.

3.) 19 Dec 2016 19:30:41
I have to say I don't really see what everyone else sees in Brady. That said, I've not seen that much of him
(Notice I stopped short of saying I might be wrong)

4.) 19 Dec 2016 19:33:26
Haha!

5.) 19 Dec 2016 20:42:16
Fair enough villasa I didn't realise about forrestieri, he is quick enough to play on the wing so makes sense. That would work well it fits grealish at 10 which is what we need, can switch him with McCormack aswell as an when needed! Personally I'd either play brady on the left or just switch him for a proper known centre mid.

19 Dec 2016 12:21:07
Hey lads, great to see this forum filled with descent debates and sensible arguments. I took a break for a while, but it's great to see its back. Thanks to flackie for being a catalyst on that and thanks to all the old guard for following suite. Chris appreciate your good insight too.

VillaSA

1.) 19 Dec 2016 12:55:24
Cheers mate you watch the game yesterday?

2.) 19 Dec 2016 13:04:12
Welcome back mate. The more people on here the merrier. But I have to disagree slightly about the debates and differing views. They've not been away!

3.) 19 Dec 2016 13:54:27
Yea, did what watch the game, glad we grounded out a win. Could've been 3-0 on another day. Their keeper had a blinder. I agree with most, service is lacking in the midfield.

I really think we could use Grealish better though. If we had a player similar to kante, feeding the ball up as quick as he does, Grealish would be our hazard, with more space to work to either score or feed our strikers, he just needs an extra half metre I recon. I really think Tshibolo could do that for now, the same way Delph used to, but if we are not going to use Tish, then we need to look else where.

4.) 19 Dec 2016 13:44:55
Differing views were at an all time high! But good to see more and more people coming back and getting involved again.

5.) 19 Dec 2016 14:34:28
Look guys, if nothing else hopefully it's made people come back and say hi again!
I don't want a discussion about how it was, good or bad, we should all move forward!
I'm just happy to see more posting again!

We brought in 3 proven strikers last year, one is in Aus and 2 are out for most the season.

Talented younger players on the way up is what we should look at.

The Championship has changed. Teams with young dynamic players and managers are doing very well.

I do prefer Snodgrass over grealish in the no. 10 role. But that being said, we are now playing as a core cohesive unit and it would be interesting to see Grealish play in a team that is getting it together. He hasn't had the opportunity to play in a descent team over the last 2 years.

TBH i think if Ayew goes in Jan, we get in an attacking midfielder. We have enough forward power and we have Adomah on the right. I would like to see Ravel Morrison in, he seems to have got his head right of late and has something to prove.

I can't really see where our goals are going to come from. We have been struggling to score of late. I think we need to start Hepburn-Murphy, he looked dangerous when he came on. Hopefully we can get another 1-0 win if we defend well and score on the counter.

The way I understand it is we are not allowed to post a loss of 30 mil in a season. Only way around it is for the club to increase its earnings really.

The beginning of next season will be the next assessment period. We will be in more trouble next season if we don't go up because parachute payments will stop which brings down the earnings.
