Really lacked creation tonight. With traore, grealish and Gil to come in we should have enough of a creative spark but gabby has got to be dropped. He was awful! Squad player at best now.

Still need another striker, a goal scorer. Can't see we have a 15 goal a season man at present. Let's hope we go in for destro.

Amavi was very good, pleased with gueye. Veretout ran out of steam but has good potential

i thought we was ok we could have done better but damn if last few years has shown us we can get hell lot worse. we need to either start rudy or get a striker in that's going to score, sinclair tourae ayew all wingers, gabby may have hit target tonight but he may have well have just caught it and passed it to the keeper. really liking amavi and gueye but not sure about veretout at minute

2.) 14 Aug 2015 22:27:46
Agree Amavi was exciting going forward but oh dear Gabby! Showed so little and on the commentary hardly heard his name! Lacked creativity against a quite dodgy United side, missed opportunity but with the new striker, super Jack and Gil looking ok, we were never really overalled! What is it also about a foul in the box is not a penalty with grabbing of MR round the neck??!!!e

3.) 14 Aug 2015 22:39:59
Got to agree with vertout out of all players brought in too me looks like he's struggling but early days, persistence may pay off,but gel wise so far I think weakest link new players, ayew wasn't great either but came into his own later game UTD,gana gaueye started to quick like the whole team but better we play pressing against mid table teams and we will be fine,we played hearts and warriors although scary to me if MAN Utd was on song our def formations set pieces would of been punished big time

4.) 14 Aug 2015 22:41:11
Amavi was brilliant tonight, think it will take time for everyone to gel. Ayew was useless we definitely need a striker who's going to score 15+ a season, Charlie Austin? Think grealish adama and Gil and being got will benefit a lot!

5.) 14 Aug 2015 22:43:15
Let's put this into perspective. In only our second game with a team of new players trying to gel we lost 0-1 to a Utd side that will click at some point and hammer teams. We didn't give them much during the game either. It's not like they had it all their on way.
I thought Avami was class. Westwood looked good and Richards looked after Rooney all night and gave him nothing. Gana did well and I think Veretout will prove a great buy. You can't judge him on only his 2nd game in England which happens to be against Utd in a midfield 3 against a midfield 5.
Bacuna is not a RB and that is the next position is look at. I think a front 3 could work but not with gabby down the middle. Keep the Faith, with Traorè and Grealish to come in we'll be ok.

6.) 14 Aug 2015 22:48:02
Amavi is a quality player. Gueye looks good and will get better. Vertout workman like at min. Reminds me of a young Barry. Ayew is worying me at mo as no real pace no trick not really a hold up player. Looks gabby like but slower. Big rudy will do well with service but we need gil jack and traore in asap and a mobile goalscorer along with a rb.

7.) 15 Aug 2015 02:51:38
To put it bluntly we were poor probably a lot to do with uncertainty between the players but that will improve as they get to know each other and gel, however Man Utd were no better and I think either one of the teams could have scored that goal. Still think Westwood is the main man for us.

8.) 15 Aug 2015 07:56:21
Why do people still want Austin? He's had 1 good season in the prem. and costs 15mil on about £80k, and that's because he's English.

9.) 15 Aug 2015 10:18:15
Got to agree about Gabby. Just doesn't have the nouse to play in the premier league. Watches play and then reacts. no ability to predict where knock-ons, etc, will go and where is the right space to go to.
As for Charlie Austin, scored 15 premier goals including 3 pens so hardly prolific.
Thought that there was lots of potential last night and after the last 3 years thought it was great to see us passing the ball forwards rather than square and backwards.

10.) 16 Aug 2015 02:37:23
Bacuna is ok at right back. not amazing but the least of our worries i think.
Striker is a must. Gabby been terrible for years and we can't rely on Rudy Gestede to score all our goals. launching the ball to him was embarrassing. especially when chris smalling won like 70 percent of the battles in the air. I think Veretout has looked good too comfortable on the ball. I think we should have 2 in midfield doing the job that the 3 guys did very well in my eyes.
Id say ill get stick for dropping westwood but he did give the ball away in bad positions aswel as providing some of the best passes of the game. i'd just like to see gueye and veretout on their own to open up more attacking positions

classic 4-4-2 is needed and build from there

11.) 20 Aug 2015 01:35:54
Gabby could be a good impact sub as he's still got the pace and can put the hurt on the opposition too.

Anyone got any news on outgoings? Need to get cissokho, n'zogbia and senderos off the books for sure. Hopefully tonev as well.

All this activity has been great! Genuinely think we could be a force this season. Looking forward to seeing gestede, apart from what I've read, don't know too much about him.

Don't want adebayor and berba.one or other. Embolo, soriano and townsend please tim :-)

I'm a bit gutted to see the ayew bid rejected! Hope we go back and up this. Saw some highlights on youtube and he looks a decent replacement for benteke. Still like us to go for embolo as well. As for austin, maybe. But can see this being a late deal as so many clubs are looking at him. He apparently wants a top half club but if he hasn't got a move on the last few days, can see him moving anywhere to get back in prem and keep his England hopes going.

Even with the wages we've freed up i hope we don't go for adebayor. Much rather we look at rhodes, gestede or joel campbell

So many contrasting reports on this, bid excepted, not or haven't made a,decision, his agent said they were flying in for talks, £12m, £8m. No one knows

2.) 24 Jul 2015 22:22:13
“I’m delighted to have arrived in the UK and to have the opportunity to join a club the size of Aston Villa,” Ayew told tv

“I’m looking forward to meeting the manager and I am very excited about the prospect of playing in the best league in the world.

“I’m sure with the new players that Aston Villa are bringing in that we can all work together to make it a great season for a great football club.”

Basically a done deal then!

A poor showing in this transfer window! Much needed reinforcements don't want to have certain relegation on the cv's. It is now inevitable. With the time left, we'd surely never get deals done we actually need. Talk of certain players going has died down, probably because garde knows he can't get anyone in.

I haven't been on this site for a while due to feeling uninspired by our plight. Had to come sooner or later though! And to think we were all so buoyant in the summer.

I don't blame garde! I don't even blame Sherwood, he should have been given more time. We're no better off than we were in November when he left. In my opinion, we should have just kept lambert and suffered relegation last year. Horrible to say, but could be what we need to get this great club going again. Get rid of the mercenaries and actually have people who want to play for the club and do well for the club. That way we could at least build a team, a squad and get a winning mentality going again!

Loans for players like ramos and sane no good! Accept the inevitable and look at buying players like Jordan rhodes, Tom ince and Andre gray.

1.) 20 Jan 2016 17:05:56
I agree with that, Villa should be using their little reputation they have left to try and attract the very best which is already established in the championship especially anyone unlikely to come up this season.
There's lot of good young players in the championship who would still relish the chance for a shot at the big time all be it for 5 months.
And next season we'd have established players.

Jordan Rhodes, Adam Henley, Henri Lansbury, Will Hughes, Andre Gray, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Charlie Taylor, Lewis Cook, Teddy Bishop, Jon Toral, Moussa Dembele, Isak Sse****ambo, Zach Clough etc etc.

2.) 20 Jan 2016 19:23:11
ha i didn't even notice what was in the middle of his name until it got censored!

{Ed007's Note - I'd never heard of him and had to go hunting to see who you were on about - it was the built in swear filter that done it btw. It's one of the best names I've came across in a long time (no pun intended).}

3.) 20 Jan 2016 19:39:53
God I hope we sign him!! Just purely to hear the chants!!

4.) 20 Jan 2016 21:40:19
I play quite of football manager that's the main reason I know the players but I've always followed ex villains at their other clubs and Derby have quite a few now.
I think he's a similar player to bacuna quick and skilful not the best defender though but still young can play rb cb or cm. His name is great though and can only imagine the chants I'm not sure how it's pronounced though.

01 Sep 2015 23:15:48
With all the defensive options we have now I can actually see us going to 3 at the back with wingbacks. I think this window has been great in terms of giving us options and strength in depth. I'm slightly concerned we didn't get another striker but we should now have a midfield capable of scoring goals, width to help gestede and Sinclair in a rich vein of form so maybe not all bad

VillaRIch83

27 Aug 2015 09:27:31
People keep saying we need another striker and those were my thoughts until recently but with Sinclair in such good form goalscoring wise, do we?

Much better finisher than gabby and offers the same pace

Thoughts???

VillaRIch83

1.) 27 Aug 2015 10:50:08
I agree, always rated the player. Think we should give him a chance, played well with Grealish.

2.) 27 Aug 2015 12:28:21
Gabby should be taken out the first team

3.) 27 Aug 2015 12:30:06
Defo VillaRich, Sinclair has scored more goals for us in less showings so your right he is worth a pun in place of Gabby, who is beginning to annoy me with his lack of skill displays.

25 Aug 2015 19:14:40
Defoe wants to come back down south. I know it's not London but I can see us making a swoop for him. Proven premiership goalscorer and english

Not seen a link but just wanted to get other thoughts on papiss cisse? Anyone else think that could be a decent move? Prem experience, wouldn't cost loads and can certainly score goals at this level

VillaRIch83

1.) 19 Jul 2015 16:18:11
Was just about to post the same!! Lol

2.) 19 Jul 2015 16:53:49
A forward who doesn't score goals ?
We already have Gabby , lads
We have to be aiming higher than this

3.) 20 Jul 2015 11:59:28
I can confirm papiss is a friend of a friend and wanting a move abroad.

Can't blame garde if he walks! He toom the job with the thought he would get this window to improve the squad. He's been hanging inti that since he arrived!

I just don't see why the board are so hell bent on destroying our great club? Are they actively seeking another compensation payment and massive fan
backlash?

Even if lerner now uninterested in the club, he's a businessman, surely he's interested in his investment?!?!

Not that this is Remi's fault, but if we didn't keep swapping managers maybe we'd have some money for players! Our compensation bill must be ridiculous!

N'zogbia should be disgusted with himself! (I know not relevant but reallgangers me! )

The board and owner need to take a good long look at themselves? Spineless cowards! I'm sure season ticket prices will remain the same despite championship football. Oh well, at least we'll get more games

All we really needed was a striker and that may have given us a chance!

I never thought our great club would be subject to this torture!

Love to see Jordan Rhodes! I think at worst, if we do go down, we'd have a striker used to playing in that division. Plus, we could see more out of gestede as they had a good partnership for an average team at Blackburn.

I've been thinking for a couple of weeks Michu would be a good signing. Much better than Berbatov or Adebayor. TS at Wolves last night so could have been scouting either Afobe or Austin

Richards should never play for villa again! I cannot believe this guy is an old England international! Okore fell apart when he moved to centre back! No leadership and no determination at the back! They just panic! Second and third goals both huge mistakes!

I can excuse amavi as he been out for virtually a season but our defence was shocking tonight! We just can't defend! As a team or as individuals! Luton really lacked quality but we made it so easy for them and they played as a team and hassled our players in groups. We have got a lot to do to turn this around. We need some steel in this team! An I don't remember gestede even touching the ball!

Absolute disgrace!

We would never have got austin anyway. He wouldn't sign with the probability we were going down. I know its all doom and gloom but i agree, if we could get a bent esk signing in the next week and have the impact he had when houllier signed him, we might have a chance. We struggled to score goals with benteke, we were always going to struggle without. Good defence today and if you look at the goals conceded, we're certainly better than the 2 teams above us. Considering gestede's main attrbute, he struggles to score goals with his head. I don't think he's really cut out for prem.

Lots of Liverpool fans seem to have this theory that benteke can only play one way, and yes, he is a great threat in the air, but he has scored some great goals for us turning and running at defences. He can be a bit sulky and seems a bit like Suarez where he expects the pass, even if the pass is impossible. But getting the best of out benteke means involving him in most of your play. I saw a potential team on sky sports with benteke if signed and I it was narrow which won't help his game as we did provide a lot of crosses for him. But as stated, I remember a great passing move with weimann up at Annfield which was all on the deck that ended up with some classy skill and a goal. Not that I mean any disrespect by this, but man utd would be a better option as they play more direct and with width but he'll do well at Liverpool. Just questionable how he'll like squad rotation, unless you loan us Inns ;-)
