My wife has just read me a report that AV are favourites to sign Wilf Zaha.
Anybody know anything more.

Theoldvillan

1.) 19 Nov 2022 18:38:14
Literally just read the article. Sounds to me like Zaha (and his agent) are trying to get him out of Palace.
I doubt that None of the so-called bigger clubs would touch him which leaves the likes of us and a few others being linked with him.
Great on his day and one of those players who winds the opposition up like a clockwork mouse.

2.) 20 Nov 2022 12:33:34
would be a great signing in my opinion very good player, yes he's annoying but you can't deny his talent

3.) 23 Nov 2022 18:53:18
My nephew who is a mad gooner said Zaha was the player Emery wanted to bring to Arsenal, the deal was all but done but fell through at the last minute so it wouldn’t surprise me if we were interested. I have to say I am a bit conflicted he is a good player but a nasty little git he invokes the same type of feelings in me as Robbie Savage- Enough said?

22 Jan 2021 19:16:52
What is happening with the guy from Marseille?
Thought it was 99% done, only waiting for the player to accept terms.
Villa Boas now wants more, who doesnt?
They have signed Millik and now need money.
Will we go back with another offer?

Theoldvillan

{Ed002's Note - Marseille are waiting for an acceptable offer. It is nothing to do with AVB. It is also unrelated to Malik.}

1.) 22 Jan 2021 20:53:18
Hi Oldvillan, its Villa playing silly buggers, he is going cheap and we are trying to get him cheaper.
Pay them what they want, he is a good player and a bargain at the asking price.

2.) 22 Jan 2021 22:58:21
Need to get this wrapped up, pay the £15 million it’s not big money for a high quality player with his experience, I like marvellous and Ramsey but I’d like to have a higher caliber player there especially with maginn missing this week we look short on options, need to get Louie on the bench forget buying a striker, midfield is where the magic happens going forward and protecting the defence.

3.) 22 Jan 2021 23:01:04
Trying to take advantage of the situation. If it comes off and we get him cheaper, it’s a master stroke from Lange, if we miss out on him it’s needless bargaining. Can go two ways.

However the amount of times we’ve had our pants down in the past, I’d rather see us try and get the best deal, after all, there isn’t an endless pot of money.

4.) 23 Jan 2021 11:07:51
Looks like the deals been done at £14 million.

5.) 23 Jan 2021 11:16:20
It’s done. Well, the fee is agreed. But since Joe Bryan I don’t consider any deal done until the photo shoot.

6.) 23 Jan 2021 13:06:35
Very very good point woodsville! Well played Lange for judging the situation and getting the best deal possible for Villa.

With interest from MCFC, Liverpool, MUFC and Arsenal in Jack according to the media, do you think that our interest in Rashica should be stepped up?
His form so far this season has been pretty average by his standards.
Which alternatives are there out in the football world?
Dont think Messi would interested so who else might be willing to come to AV, of course if Jack goes?

Theoldvillan

1.) 27 Nov 2020 15:28:06
If Jack does go then I hope he goes to City as we could ask for John Sones as part of any deal with the remainder of the money I think we should tie up Ross Barkley on a permanent deal, in terms of a left sided midfielder I wouldn’t touch Rashica with a ten foot pole I would be more inclined to try for Zaha from Palace I know he doesn’t fit the age profile but I think he would be a good fit in terms of running at the opposition creating both chances and a goal threat. I would also look at a left back maybe Rico Henry or Ryan Sessegnon ( I know he is on loan but a good offer may persuade Spurs to let him go ) Inspite of all that though I would prefer it if Jack were to stay.

2.) 28 Nov 2020 00:08:46
Zaha’s attitude in every game I’ve seen him over the last two years has absolutely stank. He just wants to fight everyone, acts as though any foul on him is an attempt on his life. Tried to drag Konsa to the floor last season and then when he couldn’t tried to fight him as if Konsa had done something?

Don’t ask me why because I haven’t a clue but I saw Zaha play for palace against Southampton years ago. The year Southampton got promoted, it was at Selhurst Park, Ricky Lambert scored.

And I’ve always remembered right infront of where we were sitting, someone played a pass to zaha, which was probably two foot infront of him, because it wasn’t to feet which is how he wanted it, he literally let it go out for a Southampton throw in, to make a point. From there I’ve always thought he was a bit of an idiot to put it nicely, but the last few years he’s took it to a new level.

Traore confirmed this morning.
Reported on ski.

Theoldvillan

1.) 19 Sep 2020 08:55:15
Must of read my post yesterday and decided to pull their finger out 😁 also apparently Origi available for £14m certainly worth a punt? Can play centrally or wide and would improve our forward options.

2.) 19 Sep 2020 12:27:21
Good shout Moose, a bargain at that price.

3.) 19 Sep 2020 13:26:03
For 14 million I’d b all over that moose.

4.) 19 Sep 2020 13:37:10
Apparently the BBC are saying Traore is our last bit of business this window unless a “unexpected opportunity” presents itself.

5.) 19 Sep 2020 16:51:57
Utter hogwash, how do they know what our transfer business entails?

6.) 19 Sep 2020 18:57:12
I hope it’s hogwash too Moose, but we seem prepared to accept the rumours they print on the players we are looking to sign quick enough!

7.) 19 Sep 2020 19:42:40
All paper BS, but we follow it anyway in our quest for all things Villa- me included! But we always keep our cards close to our chests, did anyone know anything about the Traore link til it was common knowledge?
We're a bloody impatient bunch 😁.

14 Jan 2020 08:44:37
Glenn Murray for £500000.
He knows where the goal is and use's his brain.
Probably better than any of our strikers, even when they were fit.
Deano lost in jungle of rumoured players, players available, players willing to come to VP.
Are we still being threatened by FFP?
If not why don't the owners do what Man City did and spend the money to get us where they want us to be, top 6 and Euro football.
OR are they waiting to dump Deano to get an international manager before they spend big?

Hi all,
Such a shame that last nights debacle came after a pleasant Christmas.
This result has been on the cards for a little while with the way we play. high up the pitch waiting for offside.
OK till the opposition have a couple of sprinters who run through so many times.
Playing Konsa at right back would be ok if we had 3 centre halves and a secure left back.
Last night we had Costa and Lenglet, just 2 c/h and Konsa going down the right.
4 at the back is ok allowing one wide player to advance
3 at the back allows 2 wide defenders to make 5 when needed and last night we needed a 5.
In the middle we were wanting, Toyieleman, Kamara were sorely missed. Luiz was driven back by through balls.
Dendonker tried but was not in the game.
Watkins was on holiday somewhere.
Bailey, McGinn and Ramsey worked hard but after 30 mins the ball was not with us.
The reality is that last night was a blip and Emery will correct the errors.
We must put on a performance next game and take revenge to silence the critics.

Theoldvillan

1.) 27 Dec 2023 16:31:29
TOV, good to hear from you, playing the high line obviously has it's merits and in the main has been working, however teams only need to beat it once to hurt us.I agree it's been coming unfortunately we were totally submissive in the second half and the result was totally self inflicted.I agree Emery will sort it, unfortunately teams have seen us against Wolves, Bournemouth Forest, Sheffield, Man U and the two Conference games that we can be controlled quite comfortably.

2.) 27 Dec 2023 19:36:39
City and Arsenal saw us against Forest, Bournemouth, Wolves, and in the Conference League games and yet they didn’t control us, the fact is we missed Tielemans and Kamara and we don’t have the quality or depth of squad at the moment to cover those losses. Bad day at the office, the key test is how we respond.

3.) 28 Dec 2023 13:10:59
Tov great to see you back

4.) 28 Dec 2023 16:45:07
100% agree lotm your bang on the money, truth is our bench wasn’t great and the passing skills of both Torres and tielemans are a huge loss and that 1 stupid moment from kamara has cost us a couple of points, maybe even 5 but at least he will come back well rested, I refrained from posting after the result as I’m finding it hard to be over critical as the season pushes on, it’s being a super 12 months and I’m sure we will dismantle Burnley this weekend and get back to normal, good news is Newcastle are on the slide and we took points from the other teams behind us.

Who would have put money on AVFC getting a place in Europe at the start of the season?
I only hoped that we would finish above the drop zone.
That numpty from Liverpool seemed like manor from heaven. How wrong was that?
Wasn't convinced when Emery was appointed that he would turn round the team. What did he say to the players to get them playing attacking football?
The defence must wonder how they became a strong group able to shut out many top sides.
One player signed and an entire team motivated to believe in themselves. Somewhere along the way we should give a bit of credit to Dean Smith as he got many of the players to come to VP.
Well done Deano.
I feel how I did when we topped the league and then won the European Cup.
Lets not make the same mistakes that were made after the final
75 years ago my Dad took me to VP.
Hes gone now,45 years ago but have to say "thank you Dad". You took me to the dark side of the city first and then he took me to VP.
The terraces in those days were like a waterfall of piddle.
40000 supporters all in cloth caps come straight from work to watch the game. No working from home, 50, 60 hours a week.
Getting to the ground on the bus, along with some of the players. No RollRoyce, Bentley etc. Just a chaffuer driven Daimler bus.
Well done Villa.
I look forward with hope to next season. It can't come soon enough.

Yesterday a great star passed away.
However nothing to do with footy.
The great Tina Turner, rock icon.
Simply the best.

RIP

1.) 25 May 2023 22:35:33
Could be said that, like the Villa, she was simply the best. RIP. What a legend ?

I can see the paper headlines tomorrow.

"Lucky Villa beat Newcastle's injury hit side."
"Below par Newcastle unlucky"

OR

"Magpies stuffed by vital Villa"

“Unai shows Howe to beat Eddie”

08 Apr 2023 19:39:45
Who in their widest dreams in September 2022 could believe that AVFC would be genuine candidates for a place in Europe next season?
What has Emery seen and released in the misfits that called themselves players since his arrival?
Much of the improvement is in the way the players respond to the manager after the chaos that Gerard played and left behind.
It looks like he has proved himself in the trenches and led by example and all the players are behind him.
I can't wait to see who joins our revolution but they will have to be some sort of player to improve our current squad.
There are some quality players who might be going down to the champs and might be interested in becoming Villans.
Harvey-Barnes, Madison. Ward-Prowse, Walker-Peters, Johnson, Bowen.None would cost a fortune.

Theoldvillan

1.) 08 Apr 2023 20:26:11
All good shouts TOV, I’d take them all? great as a villa fan to be able to enjoy this end of the season, fingers crossed for some more of the same in the last 8 games, last Saturday we were level with Chelsea superstars and today we are 8 ahead of them, great week for us.

2.) 08 Apr 2023 22:47:50
Think Bowen would be incredible in this Emery side, such a brilliant player and an absolute workhorse as well - Would provide great flexibility as well, can play up top and wide. Onana at Everton would be another great option from a potential relegation candidate. Personally I'd like to see us go for Firmino on a free, think he'd work very well with Watkins - He'd be 32 at the start of next season but would bring a wealth of experience, I'm sure he'll have champions league interest though!

WE are well behind many clubs when it comes to finding players.
Why do clubs much smaller than Villa get some real bargains from abroad and then sell them to us at a huge price?
Other clubs manage to lure "special" players for a reasonable fee who light up the prem?
Pool are very good at getting players with reputations and we fail. Nunez for example.
Unless we start getting players that other clubs are looking at we will never achieve what the owners want.
Some of our young players will still be going out on loan when they are in their 20's while at other clubs young players are already in the prem.
We are tardy when it comes to moving players through the ranks.
Chucky could see this and he jumped ship.
Archer and Barry seem to be in the same situation and several other young players.
End or rant!

I can't even say his surname properly so in the middle of a game will it be Chuky 1 and Chuky 2?

Hi John,
It would appear that he has the same malaise re management that some of us have.
In the mid 50's a lad from Dudley was sent away from VP because he was a very big lad, and he was!
Played for England after a couple of years. Played for Man Utd.
His name Duncan Edwards.
Great loss after the Munich air crash in 1958.

WE have £24m from the monies stated for getting players into the squad.
Benrahma could be an option at a fare price if Franks would accept £24m.
Generally fees are ridiculous so one last push may secure a player that is/ was coveted by Deano and many on this site.
He is imaginative, quick and scores. What more do we want?
Watkin was a chance that proved right.
Surely worth a dip into the coffers.

Tony Morley goal of the season against Everton must be up there.
Trevor Ford scored many worldies
Several McParland goals.
Chris Nicholl v Everton and without doubt Stan Lynn against many teams, everyone of them blasted into the net before the gk moved.
Oh sweet memories, wish I could see them all again.

Hi fellow Villans.
Dont get much opportunity to join in these days but as AKA states the window is still closed in Europe.
My hope is that Unai is a smooth poker player and is keeping his cards flat on the table.
Too often we seem to lose the race when chasing a player so I hope that the cards we have are the right cards and when revealed will all have names on them that move us upwards.
I am waiting with expectancy to read that Unai has played a blinder and comes up trumps.

We need a few results from MU and Pool.
Utd against spuds and pool v Spuds, Fulham, and Brentford.
Europe looks within reach if results go our way.
Pool are almost certainly going to finish above us with the games in hand many against the middle group of teams just below us.
Brighton have some obstacles and a final game against AVFC.
This could be a cup final, the decider as to who gets 6th and Europe.
it will be an incredible day and with a full to overflowing VP that will be driving us onwards

Theoldvillan

{Ed077's Note - 7th will get Europe no? Conference league?}

Could it be that Jhon Duran gets the nod as number 2 to Olly?
Not seen much of him but the odd glimpse suggests that he could be something to talk about.
A wide man with speed and intelligence. Harvey-Barnes every time. if Leicester fail to stay up he would welcome a move for not a huge fee. Zaha could cost nothing but his wage demands would be massive.
At the back I would like to see someone with leadership qualities. Observation, willingness, attitude and demanding of those around him.
Many successful clubs have had such a player. We had one. Mcgrath.
Could we find another?

Scotty, I would have accepted staying in the prem after Gerrard.
If we could stay in 7th I would be ecstatic. Top half at end of 38, brilliant.
Defensibly we have improved beyond expectations but on occasions we revert to naievety.
Too many gaps between defenders and forgetting to shut the gate.
Ollie is now what he was in year 1.
What about Harvey- Barnes in the wide role that we look like keeping?
