Seems very much like one of Fergies old tricks. Arsenal player not being able to play for their countries, as a precaution.

Dave, the way things are going there may still be a place for Phillips, Southgate has to find a way to pick his favourites even though everyone thinks differently.

22 Mar 2024 01:17:01
We should be doing the same with Ollie, we can’t afford to lose him. hopefully cash is not out for to long

20 Mar 2024 15:11:48
BBC Website saying that Citeh may well let Jack go this Summer as they want funds to enhance the squad. As we don't have a buy-back clause, I wonder who else would be interested? I think he'd want to revert to his old style of play rather than Pep's way. He's already behind Doku in the pecking order and, if City do sign Kvaratskhelia from Napoli, then he'll be third choice 🤔 I'm not sure if anyone would be willing to pay the sort of money City may be looking to recoup, plus he's reportedly on a salary of around £15.6 million a year which also might prove a problem for a lot of clubs. Since he's contracted until 2027, on that sort of money perhaps he'll just sit it out on the golf course a-la Gareth Bale🤔

I’d love to see him back Menace but I think Emery is a bit like Pep and likes his players to play how he wants them to, and Jack would be a bit too maverick for his tastes I think, his salary requirements would probably be an issue for us to to be honest. The only one of the so called big clubs that might be interested in him would be Utd in my view. Tottenham already have the likes of Maddison and Kulusevski, Arsenal Saka and Martinelli, Liverpool Salah, Diaz and Jota, Chelsea Palmer, Sterling and Mudryk. I am not sure any other premiership club could afford him and if he wants a move he might have to go abroad.

20 Mar 2024 18:27:24
He won’t like that much - I’m pretty sure Ibiza are only in the second tier of La Liga 😂

20 Mar 2024 21:54:40
Ibiza are a third tier side MD, he could still have fun in the sun though. What about a year loan deal, however I agree I don't think he would fit Emery's profile.

He made a mistake in the first half playing two left footed centre halves once he change we played better but our set piece defending is dodgy at best and our set piece coach need to sort this out in the international break our other teams we play will take advantage of this

Raj, they all are already taking advantage mate, just review all the goals we have conceded since Christmas.

17 Mar 2024 18:27:38
Ed01, what did you think of that!

{Ed001's Note - great game for the neutrals but horrible for Liverpool fans. However, Liverpool have a horrible record there in the cup so it was to be expected as they were always going to raise their game. It is a lesson in how you have to take your chances when they come along or you risk letting a team back in. Also showed how much damage injuries can do over a longer term, lots of players coming back from injury running on empty and players who had been filling in also running on empty.

At the end of the day, United took their chances and so deserved to win. That Mainoo is a special talent.}

Ed, fair and balance mate. Like you injuries do take their toll.I thought after your third you could have put the game beyond them. Klopp summed it up, poor choices from both experienced and inexperienced players were not what was expected from a team who had been scoring for fun.Lets hope like us we don't falter on both fronts, Klopp obviously wants to go out on a high, I just hope for your sake the players don't put added pressure on themselves trying to send him away without anything this season.

{Ed001's Note - it just looked like tired minds making tired choices to me. It happens at this point in a season. That's why it is so rare that one team wins everything.

I don't think there is much pressure now with the League Cup in the bag, it means that Klopp can't go away empty-handed this season.}

Lots of hand-wringing from various pundits and media outlets about how great/unlucky the Hammers were. What all the 'highlights' don't seem to 'highlight' is our 70% possession and the fact that we got good away point against the side that was competing for exactly the same European trophy last year. Muppetry 🐸

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Mar 2024 08:19:20
70 percent possessions counts for nothing if for 50% of that 70% we go backwards, sideways and move the ball far too slow.
West Ham looked far more dangerous than us for the first hour, the game changed when we made changes and when West Ham took Antonio off which took away the press from West Ham which we struggled with allowing our defenders to carry the ball higher up the pitch.
This narrative a lot of our fan base force is that the whole league and media is against Villa and anytime things don’t go our way it’s all a conspiracy or if we aren’t being praised constant then the media hate us. Maybe it’s a case of yesterday West Ham over the whole of 100 plus mins were the better team for 75 minutes, pressed us well, sat in well, broke on us with purpose and looked dangerous going forward along with torturing us from set plays.

18 Mar 2024 11:57:46
Dan, fair points, I previously commented I found it a difficult watch, our choices when defending set piece's and crosses needs addressing, we look vulnerable.Emery knows Duran shouldn't start and Konsa at right back simply doesn't work. Both Torres and Langlett are poor at defending crosses, can't wait for Mings to come back. Let's hope that that we set up with Cash Konsa Torres Digne, Mcginn Luis, Tielemans, Ramsey (if fit) Bailey Watkins obviously subject to injuries and Suspensions. Rogers, Moreno, Duran and Diaby Zaniola can then be impact players off the bench, no more experimenting it hasn't and doesn't work.

18 Mar 2024 13:57:16
It’s hardly surprising we are a little more susceptible from crosses as we haven’t had a settled back four for a while and having two left footed centre halves causes more problems than it solves in my view so in future I think Konsa has to start with Torres and Cash has to play. It will be interesting come next season with Mings fully fit, as to who will start I don’t like two left footers so for me Konsa starts but who with? My gut feel is Emery will go with Torres because he values his greater ability on the ball and Mings will end up warming the bench but we will see I guess.

18 Mar 2024 14:23:42
I agree with menace to a point and Dan at the same time, we played 100 minutes yesterday meaning that for 70 minutes of the 100 West Ham didn’t have the ball, Pak I ask how they were the better team for 75 minutes? Because they defended well? Obviously not well enough to stop us scoring the equaliser, if you base your whole strategy on defending in the premier league you get punished, time and time again we see teams trying to hold out on a 1 goal lead till the end and they end up crumbling, if your going to rely on defence you have to be 100% for the whole game not just 70 or 80 minutes, don’t get me wrong I would at times like to see the ball going forward quicker but possession seems to be the name of emery’s game, I know it’s frustrating to watch at times but it’s also very frustrating for the team defending and they make mistakes eventually, I watched city and united 2 weeks ago and it was exactly the same I thought them slow building up and way to much backwards but they kept at it and eventually United made the mistakes and city scored the goals to win it, so compare the quality they have available and look at our inferior squad and injuries to boot and a draw away to West Ham does not look like a bad result, Jarrod Bowen has being prolific all season and he hardly got a sniff yesterday apart from his dead ball deliveries which we can’t control. you say they attacked with purpose when they had the ball, they had exactly the same shots and shots on target as us with only 30% of the ball so would you ask maybe if keeping them from having the ball was a better strategy than sitting in and offering up more chances? Don’t forget to add in home advantage and us missing 2 of our regular and best midfielders into the equation, 4 points from 2 games against them is not to be sniffed at.

Just a word for Matty Cash, I thought he played great after coming on . He takes he'll of a lot of stick, but that block, was as good as a goal UTV

Credit to the subs today they all played their part, rogers still looks a bit raw for this level.

18 Mar 2024 00:30:32
Agreed mate, clearly there's potential there but with so much at stake I'd prefer to lean on a bit more experience for the run in.but we don't have many options until we get a few back from injury and Emery is clearly seeing something there so let's just hope it pays off.

18 Mar 2024 11:02:00
Rogers has it all, he’s athletic, fast, powerfully built, good on the ball, runs with the ball well . He’s just got to learn how to put it all together, looks a very good prospect .

17 Mar 2024 16:51:19
Unai needs to stop tinkering with the system we play nearly cost us again today, just play the system that got us this far

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Mar 2024 00:27:22
The 'tinkering' is unavoidable to a degree with injuries and suspensions, but it wasn't too long ago that some were suggesting that we need to mix it up as we'd been 'found out'. Emery is never going to please everyone, but we should appreciate we don't have all the information to hand (players carrying knocks, performances in training etc) and Emery has proven so far that he knows what he's doing.
It's going to be really tight over the next month or two, but with everyone pulling in the same direction and Villa Park driving the team on, we have a chance of doing something pretty special.

17 Mar 2024 16:34:37
How we need Mings, Kamara, Ramsey, Buendia Mcginn, a right back, another striker and we can get back to our best next season.Injuries poor defending, poor discipline are really making our run in extremely difficult. A point today is the best we could have hoped for in the circumstances.

17 Mar 2024 16:52:53
We need another dm aswell scotty if we get CL we are going to need some top draw players in summer

17 Mar 2024 17:07:12
Dave we where saying the other day, if you want three at the back, Konsa, Torres and a fit Mings in the middle, now that would be a good back three .

17 Mar 2024 17:38:58
Can't wait Dave. I just hope we can get through the remaining games and end up with fourth or fifth, to me that's a successful season especially based on our cruel injuries. I really don't like Konsa at right back, I'm not convinced by Cash, however get Konsa in the middle.

17 Mar 2024 16:24:51
❤️❤️❤️Always loved VAR ❤️❤️❤️🤪🤪
They didn't have to commit to a tackle in the first half, we just kept giving it to them .
Second half, so much better, Diaby make a big difference. Tielemans great at playing the ball forwards, but just not strong enough playing deeper . We had some lucky breaks, but so did they . Bailey did well, considering he had Two players on him, every time he got the ball . We have to cut out the stupid bookings, Dougie seems to have that in him where he just can't help himself.
At least it's another point, further away from Tottenham . UTV

Very good second half, delighted to see the improvement in Diaby 👌 very good assessment Dave I couldn’t argue with anything👍
