Not great tonight we were far too passive particularly in the first half. I think we did learn a few things though. Firstly we know where Emery's priorities lie and that's the Premiership. Secondly although it's a bit early to judge particularly in Rogers case but not sure about him and Iroegbunam as players to challenge the first XI we looked a lot more solid when McGinn and Zaniolo came on. What I did like though was the way we mixed things up and on occasion went long which gave Ajax something to think about and meant they stood off us a little bit.
The ref was shocking, he was card happy. The sendings off neither of which was a card in my view and he booked Zaniolo for using his body to protect the ball, yet when Rensch smacked Watkins in the face with his arm we didn't even get a free kick not to mind Rensch getting a card.
If we are looking at recruits I think we ought to keep an eye on Kaplin and Taylor both looked like good players to me.
