Match days we park on King Edwards school car park,have done for the last few seasons .For about 18 months now,the locals,have been doing a bit of private car parking organisation .Problem is all the spare land around there,that people have parked on for years, the locals are now trying to charge a £5 for parking . This has caused quite a bit of upset,with people telling them to sod off,a few cars have been damaged . Last night at last,the boys in Blue turned up . The locals non to happy, but disappeared, hope this stops it for a bit .

The locals have always guarded the parking near their homes even when I was a very little boy.
My Dad and many other Dads gave a "donation" to youngsters who asked if they could "look after your car mister."
Nobody walked away, we just gave them a sixpence,2.5p or a shilling, 5p, and they were happy. At this time I think a program was around 6d or 2.5p.
The parking problem has always been there and while our football grounds are in the middle of housing area they will remain. Paying £5 for probably 3 hours parking is pretty good. 3 hours in a car park in the south of the country will cost you a lot more.
If the land is available then someone is being a bit cute.

TOV nothing like a bit of private enerprise, we park in a "look after your car mister" and like you say we used to give them a couple of quid, now the cheeky sods want a fiver up front. I had to leave early once and there was no sign of anyone looking after the cars, I suppose we would all make a shilling if we could.

Oldvillian not as innocent as that,your talking of extortion with threats of violence. My oldest lad told them no and four of them in a car chased him,it was only they got held with a car pulling out . As I said loads of people appear to have complained, that why the police eventually turned up . Rumour is one of the people they tried it on with, turned out to be a copper .
