Interesting interview this morning on TalkSPORT with Mick Beale. I wasn't aware of the time he had spent at Chelsea and Liverpool's youth/academy set ups he has certainly done his apprenticeship before working with Gerrard up at Rangers and then with us. Apparently he had been leading the coaching sessions at both Rangers and Villa for some time Gerrard and the rest of the management team giving him a free hand in that regard so maybe the view of some on here that Beale was the brains behind Gerrard isn't that wide of the mark, hence our difficulties this season. It just goes to show learning your trade before stepping into management is in most cases a better option than immediately exchanging your boots for a tracksuit. It may be we are going to find this season difficult whilst the manager finds his feet without his right hand man.

It's widely accepted in Scotland Beale was the brains of the operation and many rangers fan would take beale as manager before SG
