Brilliant goal by Bayley, thought Dougie had one of his better games .Can't work out what's going on with Maginn, wasn't playing well before the armband, but seems worse with it .

Dave, i thought Gerrard made the right decision to play a strong team tonight. I thought it had backfired the first half, we were pretty poor around. I think we really do have major problems in midfield and attack. Watkins was woeful and not for the first time. Ings is a journeyman not premier league quality. Mcginn is not at the races and neither is Coutinho. We totally lack creativity in midfield. Obviously we picked up in the second half as Bolton tired and created enough to score six. let's remember an inexperienced second choice goalkeeper who hadn't played in the first team this season gifted us two goals. Bailey scored a good goal and we were lucky with the ings goal looked offside and his touch was poor. I don't think West Ham will be shaking in their boots and will fancy their chances of chalking up their first win on Sunday. I can hear fans saying what more can we do we won 4-1,every other premier side won tonight and we played inferior opposition. I would stick with Ashley Young on Saturday along with Chambers, Buendia, Archer and Tim, i would leave Mcginn, Watkins, Coutinho on the bench. I hope we buy a striker, central defender and one if not two quality football playing midfielders. Tonight's result must be taken in to context and all round was not premier league quality especially taking the opposition in to account.

Agree, I thought both Bailey and Archer’s cameo performances were really good, and as you say Dougie had one of his better games in a Villa shirt. McGinn doesn’t look comfortable as captain, and the back four seem to look a little uncomfortable when pressed and I don’t understand why we continue to play out from the back in situations where no easy out ball is on and we put players who aren’t that comfortable on the ball in difficult situations. The other thing is Kamara looks silky smooth on the ball and has a fantastic range of passes but he commits some unnecessary fouls in areas of the pitch which aren’t needed and simply cedes possession back to the opposition.

Scot, Fulham lost to Crawley who are much lower than Bolton although did change their entire team.
Unless loans are all but signed for Tim and Archer then I don't agree with selection as that was their chance like the barrow match last season.
What's the point of an experienced second choice keeper if you're not going to give him match sharpness in the cups.
First half was awful and we again allowed the opposition to outplay us. Chambers was as poor as Konsa defensively but Mings covered more easily with Bolton being a little more predictable than top level players.
Both full backs were decent but the system means those areas were still our weak link and the midfield just disappears as soon as the ball comes back at us.

Scott why are you always looking at the negatives and not the positives? Every game we play you can't help but be negative about everything.Heres a free tip for you get out the kitchen at parties and have a dance it sure does help!

Daz, don't confuse negatives with my own genuine honest opinions, and regarding positives have you watched the last fourteen games. If the obvious is not addressed things are not going to improve. Obviously Gerrard is concerned, to put a full side out against lower opposition suggests a problem, which is obvious to many of us. I like many do want the best for us which is why i put honest forthright views forward. The bottom line, we are not a good team and have issues all ovet the park. So if fans are happy to be positive playing second rate opposition that's fine by me, I expect far higher standards especially with our level of investment, which at the moment is way way below acceptable.

No disrespect intended here Scott on the years I've been on here and since you've joined I can't remember anything positive you've wrote. And as I wrote earlier its took Spurs and Arsenal and so many other teams many many seasons to build their squads into European chasing teams and those teams haven't even been relegated nor had anywhere near the Financial troubles that we had.And like I've said many a time on here some want trophies now. Have a count how many times we've been to Wembley in the last 10 years and compare that to Proven PL teams that have been in the league far longer than us over the last 10 years but eh I'm guess I'm just a claret and blue rose tinted glasses kida guy!

Daz, Always respect your personal views, sadly we will have to disagree, we can't live in the past mate and for the level of investment we must expect better. In the future i would gladly trade our past wins for a title or trophy now and i went to everyone of the successes you allude to in the past.
