I'd love to say how I feel about some posters but I will keep it to myself because I would imagine our fantastic Eds would ban me.Some of you think we have the god given right to be in the CL fact of the matter is we don't we don't even deserve to be in Europe at the moment. One thing I will say is that we have been back in PL for 3 seasons and some of you want it all straight away well guess what rubbish don't happen like that.West Ham have bought a load of players and look where they are as goes 20% of the teams that are ESTABLISHED PL teams.NWSE are building the foundations to increase capacity of VP which will bring in more revenue thus giving more funds to the playing side of things.Ive said it many a time on here some supporters are a fickle bunch infact I'd go as far as to say downright blind and ignorant in what is going on.I accept the football under Gerrard isn't great and facts speak for themselves but wanting your team to lose just to prove your own self righteousness is beyond belief. Its simple support your team no matter what or FO and go and play Fifa its that simple!

Nobody wants our team to lose, they don't need fans help, they are more than capable without our involvement. In any walk of life and especially football, you don't get a lot of time when you are failing, currently we are failing by any measure you choose to use.

Sorry Scotty I agree with Daz, if you look at things in the round the club in on the up, we are more stable as a club, the academy is flourishing, plans for ground expansion are well developed, the squad is the strongest it’s been since the Martin O’Neill days and I would argue that overall recruitment has been good. I accept results aren’t what we would want but it takes time and patience to build success but we have a strong base to work from.

I guess we are all just a bit frustrated. We see other clubs doing better and wonder why we can't do better. For me, I liked Dean Smith and what he was trying to do. We had some great results and it was, by and large, fun to watch. I expected when he went we would get a big name manager with plenty of relevant experience, but instead we took a risk. We still don't know if it will work out, but I was surprised, because I didn't see why we had to do it. I want Gerrard to succeed, but I am not enjoying the football like I used to. I hope it gets better. For sure, constantly changing players/managers is not the right direction.

I've said it a few times on the site, we really aren't that far off from having a very good squad of players, the academy is one of the best in England and the owners are pumping money into the club to improve infrastructure. Things are going very well at Villa but if we are to make the move into European places the results need to improve, we need to give Gerrard time but if it does prove he is not the right person to take us forward we need to go big on a manager, the club are moving in the right direction and to maintain that momentum the next appointment (if needed) needs to be 100% correct.

I agree with what you are saying BK but ensuring you are 100% right on a managerial appointment is probably the most difficult of things to do as you are fishing in a very small pool in terms of top talent, you only have to look at what’s happened to Utd since Ferguson left to see that taking big names is no automatic guarantee of success. Your choice is to go for an established name with all the costs associated with that in terms of transfer budget, salary etc or opt for an up and coming as we have done this time neither approach guarantees you success but I think even though we are a club on the up given where we are in terms of our development it would be a stretch to imagine the likes of Conte or Poch gracing the hallowed Villa Park turf anytime soon.

Fully agree Ings, doesn't necessarily need to be a massive name but (if the time comes) we need to get the appointment right I guess is what I'm saying - When I say "big" I mean if we need to pay a lump sum to get the right person then let's do it, if Graham Potter is that choice for example and Brighton want X amount then pay it. Hopefully it doesn't come to that, think we'll have a good idea of where we sit with Gerrard at the end of the next 4 fixtures.
