Let's hope Gomez defending improves unlike the goal he conceded yesterday where he failed to close down the canaries striker when he scored from outside the box

Raj, i watched with interest both Gomez and Bissouma's recent games, of course it's only a couple of games, however i saw enough to keep well clear of both.

When Gomez was first linked I raised concerns then as in the games I had seen him in he didn’t seem to be the player he once was, however I have no doubts about Bissouma’s class I would go so far as saying that in his position I think he is amongst the best in the premiership.

Agreed - major question marks over Gomez and certainly wouldn't see him as a major step up from what we already have, especially for the money being suggested. I suppose he's young (ish) so has potential to improve, so i'm not writing him off as a talent just yet, but we'd need an established, quality CB to genuinely improve us.

{Ed001's Note - honestly mate, I would be gutted if Gomez leaves Liverpool. His partnership with van Dijk was sensational when Liverpool won the league. For a long period he was playing better than Virgil and was absolutely outstanding until that useless bell Southgate managed to ignore the medical advice from Liverpool about his training and caused him a serious injury. Not for the first time either that happened. On his day Gomez is a fantastic player. I would have him in the team ahead of Matip without a question if I was picking the team.}

Encouraging feedback ed, from someone in the know, if we buy him we will either give you plaudits or brickbats,

{Ed001's Note - better idea is if you don't buy him I think!}

Ed we will have to see, are there rumours around Anfield if he is going to be allowed to move in the summer window.

{Ed001's Note - no, but I am not the best person to ask to be honest. The best person would be the Liverpool poster known as Square Tomato as he knows Joe.}

I know a number of us agree that we will undertake a major clear out in the summer, and whilst I think common consent exists around the likes of AEG, Trez, Traore, Davis, Wesley, Steer, Hourihane, Guilbert, some of the other names being bandied about, the likes of Luiz,Targett, Konsa, Watkins, Cash does give me cause for concern, whilst not all of the above would be regular first teamers it’s about building a squad, if we lost all of the above trying to build a whole new team/squad and challenge for the top six would be a massive ask

Loti, i think you need to add Bailey to one of the lists. I don't think the latter names are ready to be moved on, however i think if the right offers come in and we have bought better than we have i think a few will be moved on.

LOTI totally agree with your 2 lists. We need to get rid of your first list and try and buy better than the 2nd list and that is how you build a stronger squad. If/ when we do buy better we also need to keep the players we have and not allow them to move because they now have competition or less game time. ( Matt Targett/ Lucas Digne)

You can only do that if you're in the champions league though PoL. No team outside the top 4 has a better left back than Targett sitting on the bench.
Good players who are/were Europa League/Champions League regulars in the good leagues are not going to sit on the bench of a mid table team. The likes of Bailey and Sanson aren't going to sit around forever when they've already proven they have a lot to offer big name teams.
